  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Pretty pictures, Claire, as usual!

Hope you had a happy Valentine's Day!

Is that felt? Felt is good :)

My Valentine's day consisted of finishing a PhD chapter, having a civilised drink of tea with friends, and sharing a box of choccies with my wife while we sat together to watch a one hour TV show. Then I went and did the pots while she went on the comp. Romance eh?

Great pictures. And I can identify my actual Valentine in the second one, which is super cool! (And thank you! It arrived today to my great delight. I will send you a real response soon.)

You made and sent and photographed those valentines, Claire?
Such sweetness!
